I believe Intramurals are also a great way of playing sports within the school community. It brings students of all grades together and we're allowed to play any sport that we enjoy. Although it is fun playing with people outside of the school community and playing tournaments, there is also an enjoyable element of Intramurals.

My school offered a wide variety of different sports such as basketball, soccer, table tennis, volleyball, and badminton, all of which I participated in. It was great to learn about new sports I've never played before such as Volleyball and basketball which soon became one of my favorite sports. I enjoyed playing with students from various grades and just playing a sport without having to play competitively. It did matter whether we won or lost. Sometimes, we didn't even keep score. The freedom we had while playing Intramurals was amazing.

Of course, not everything about Intramurals was all flowers and rainbows. We had some conflicts along the way, such as when a game would get too heated, the team members would become impatient with each other or the opposing team. That was when I had to step in and encourage our team. We would get into a big circle and talk to each other and solve the small problems we had.

Other times, we would have difficulty choosing a sport to play. I would many times help resolve the conflict by suggesting a small game the two sides could play to decide which sport we would play that day. I also suggested ways we could mix the games up together and for example, play soccer and basketball at the same time.

We would have to play indoors for this game but underneath the basketball hoops, a little further back, we would place soccer goals and we would have one referee. The referee would shout out the number of people that could come out onto the field and throw in a ball. That would determine which game the people on the field would play. If the referee shouted 3 and threw in a basketball, the game would become a 3 vs 3 game of basketball, while if he shouted 1 and threw in a soccer ball, it would become a 1 vs 1 game of soccer. It was very new but also interesting. Games like this involved everyone and it didn't matter if one was good at the sport or not.

I think I was able to receive the Intramural Award not only because I actively participated in every sport I could and was good at it, but also because I genuinely enjoyed it and encouraged others to get involved as well.
